It is estimated that the world population of southern right whales was between 55,000 and 70,000 individuals before commercial whaling . Currently although stocks recover to a rate of 5.1 %, after more than70 years of international protection population size represents 25 % of the original . It is currently estimated that there are approximately 12,000 to 17,000 southern right whales throughout the Southern Hemisphere.

Interesting facts

  • It has only a few hairs , lips and the equivalent part to our chin.
    
  • Calluses are in the same places of the face where we have hair like whiskers , beard and eyebrows.
    
  • In his mouth there are 450 barbs , up to 2.5 m long, which are made of the same material as hair and nails.
    
  • The fat layer can be up to half a meter thick , for example , in the " roll " of the neck ( behind the nostrils) .
    
  • Despite being such a large animal, it feeds on other very small : a tiny shrimp and krill called copepods.
    
  • Per day you can eat up to 2 tonnes ( * ) food .
    
  • The females, which can reach 17m long, are larger than males 15m .
    
  • The pups at birth are 3 to 5m and weigh 2 to 3 tons. In the first weeks of life can increase up to 150 kg per day.

Departure times are 8am , 10am , 12am , 14 pm , 16hrs and 18hrs . Having to 30 minutes prior to performing the chek in. In all cases you should check availability.
